Candidate Qualifications

Thompson Legal Assistance takes great pride in providing highly competent representation to our clients. As a result, the law firm will actively screen all applicants in terms of both proficiency and moral standing. 1. Licensure to practice law in the State of Iowa, and a willingness to consider licensure in Nebraska and South Dakota. (this may not be applicable for law school interns)

2. Experience in drafting documents of legal efficacy preferred.

4. Education or experience in serving the public (degrees in psychology or similar, or experience in exceptional customer service, or the like)

5. Excellent written and oral communication skills.

6. Strong analytical and legal research skills.

7. Knowledge and skill in modern technology devices and methods are required. (we are a virtual law office using electronic delivery for much of our services)

The determination of the need for legal services and the choice of a lawyer are extremely important decisions and should not be based solely upon advertisements, certification, specialization or self-proclaimed expertise. A description or indication of limitation of practice does not mean that any agency or board has certified such lawyers as specialist or expert in an indicated field of law practice, nor does it mean that such lawyer is necessarily any more expert or competent than any other lawyer. All potential clients are urged to make their own independent investigation and evaluation of any lawyer being considered. These disclosures are required by the Supreme Court of Iowa.
